Many physical therapists choose to open a private practice so they can treat patients how they see fit and cultivate an environment that encourages staff and patients to thrive.   • Create a positive company culture. Employees want to work in a place where they feel valued. As a leader, you can set and maintain the kind of culture that therapists are drawn to with open and clear communication, regular check-ins with staff, and a clear path to helping them achieve their goals. Don't discount small gestures of appreciation like treating them to morning coffee and bagels or a Friday happy hour. And don’t forget to bring some fun into your practice! Host team challenges (such as a water or steps challenge), encourage staff to dress up on holidays and create opportunities for social interaction. 

 

  • Lead by example. Employees are drawn to leaders who demonstrate the same values they expect from employees. Define and live your company values in how you treat patients and interact with staff. To do this, simply go to google.com/business and select ‘Manage Now.’ From there, you will be prompted to create a profile and you can fill out all the information on your business that is helpful for clients to know. Your Google Business profile is also a place to collect reviews. After an encounter, send an automated email to clients asking them to leave a Google review with a link to your business profile. Alternatively, you could print an eye-catching flier for your clinic with a QR code that links directly to your business profile review page. 

 

  • Define your niche. Defining and understanding your unique selling proposition (USP) is a must to master your marketing. What makes your practice special? What makes your services stand out from the competition? Who exactly do you serve? What do your clients care about? Having clear, thorough answers to these questions will help steer your messaging and strengthen your positioning in the market.

 

  • Make sure your website is up-to-date. Brownie points if it looks modern, clean, and inviting. First impressions are everything! Most likely, your website will be the first place a potential client will go to check out your business. Create marketing content of value you can send to patients via email or physically hand them at the clinic around what conditions your therapists treat, results clients have experienced, or the proven benefits of therapy. This will make it easy for patients to share with others and also as a reminder to come back when the need arises. The second focus in expanding your referral network should be on building partner relationships.
